Exercise And Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a good time for women to exercise their physical fitness options. The physical benefits of exercise can improve your stamina, flexibility and strength, as well as make you look and feel better.

Along with keeping the heart and body healthy and fit, exercise can help alleviate or prevent backache, leg cramps and constipation; improve your posture; and promote early recovery after delivery. Labor may also be easier and more comfortable if you have good muscle tone, and you'll also get an emotional boost when endorphins are released through aerobic exercise — hormones that act as natural painkillers and mood enhancers.

You need to check with your doctor before beginning or continuing an exercise program to assess your individual risks and benefits. A pregnant woman should be aware of the warning signs that indicate she should stop exercising.
