Cool Your Jets

Are you ready to change your teeth-gnashing ways? To do this, your anger has to be approached from two sides -- how to cool down quickly when you're angry, and how to avoid getting angry in the first place.

Don't blow up! Click each button below for news on how to defuse.

Some perpetually angry people see the world in a cynical way, viewing it as a hostile place where people and circumstances only work against you. As you can imagine, this viewpoint can easily predispose to anger, always ready to read hostility in the actions of other people.

How can you head off anger before it controls you?

  • Don't let things build to a breaking point. Talk openly about what troubles you with the people involved (or even a sympathetic ear).
  • Determine when you have flare-ups of anger and what situations trigger them.
  • Imagine how somebody you respect would handle the same situation.
  • Recognize that you may have an attitude problem (a cynical way of viewing the world).

If you need help with this, talk to a therapist. Therapists have methods to help you find the root causes of your anger and can show you how to lessen anger's harmful affect on your life.
