| • | Prostate Cancer
In the course of a lifetime, about one in five men will develop prostate cancer and about 3 percent will die from it. |
| • | Acute Prostatitis
Because the prostate surrounds the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body from the bladder), conditions that cause the prostate to swell or enlarge may press on the urethra and cause pain or problems with urination. |
| • | Chronic Prostatitis
Prostatitis is inflammation or swelling of the prostate gland. When symptoms start gradually and linger for more than a couple of weeks, the condition is called chronic prostatitis. |
| • | Enlarged Prostate (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia)
The prostate is a small gland approximately the size and shape of a walnut that is located at the base of the penis. Half of all men have an enlarged prostate by the time they reach age 60. |
