The "Iron Horse"

As a New York Yankee, Henry Louis Gehrig was named the American League's most valuable player in 1927, 1931, 1934 and 1936. In 14 seasons he did not miss a single game for a total of 2,130 games. Unfortunately, his name is not only associated with great baseball, but also with the incurable disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease. Gehrig was born on this date in 1903, and he died of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis on June 2, 1941, at the age of 37.
